Has anyone ever made a medicinal tonic saurkraut? Like with ecchinacaea, burdock, or other healing herbs and can comment about potency? I recently made one with daikon, horseradish, garlic, ginger, burdock, carrots, cayenne, and golden beets. It rocked!

Re: Medicinal Saurkraut
Sun, January 27, 2008 - 5:21 PMi've put burdock in mine before- can't say I felt like it did anything, but it fits into my philosophy of eating some medicinals as foods when appropriate. I also put fresh turmeric root into my red kraut sometimes, which enchances the red color a bit and helps me eat more turmeric which I think is a good idea near-daily.

Mon, January 28, 2008 - 3:09 PMI normally use powdered turmeric in my stir-fries, but I hadn't thought of the whole root. Good idea! I wonder what fermented echinaccea/osha would be like.
